We made it

We made it through the year.  While my father passed away, no one I know personally outside my job has died of COVID yet.  I am very grateful for that.  Needless to say, 2020 has been a scary year.  Today when at work, I found out that a patient I saw on a home visit in December did have COVID. Fortunately the bin liner that I wear as an apron protected me, along with my flimsy mask and surgical gloves.  

Having two wonderful kids, my main worry is that they will be left with no parents due to COVID, something that has happened to far too many people across he globe. My wife works on he frontline as well, not in hospital but I worry for her as I think that she has greater exposure to the plague compared to me.

At work, we have had two people with it last year, and at present we have another member of staff off with it, one isolating as their spouse has it and one is waiting for test results.  

I know that I have a lot to be grateful for. But I want more, specifically I want my family to get through his period of history intact.  A wish that many up and down the country want as well I suspect.

Well, 2020 was an interesting year

Just a few more hours to go and I can say we survived 2020.  The last time this planet faced such a plague was in 1918 with the Spanish Flu.  

Here in the UK, things look scary with our infection rates and hospitals becoming overwhelmed.  But we have hope with vaccinations.  I have been vaccinated and was due to have my second dose in about two weeks time.  Instead, I am going to have to wait three months for my second dose, and we do not know if the first vaccine will cover me for that long.

But I am a patriot.  I know that it is more important to the nation for more people to get one dose, rather than for me to get better protection.  This means that my wife and friends will get one dose, and therefore some protection sooner than otherwise.

Fingers crossed that all my friends and family survive to see the next Nee Year.

I resolve

First of all, I have lost some weight compared to last year, and now am 92kg.  My resolutions this year include
1 - Getting into work before 0700 more often than not
2 - Being more tidy at home 
3 - Ending the year lighter than last year

The kids have been back at school, my daughter for two days, my son for four.  My mother had come up for New Years which was great, especially as we did not get a chance to see her before we left for Sri Lanka due to the snow that fell on the weekend before we travelled.

I do feel faster at work and we have organised things to deal with the winter rush.  Being back just for four days, I have not had to deal with much of the crisis that is affecting the NHS at the moment.  While the Conservative government appears to be denying the crisis that has been created by them not funding the NHS properly, I have had to warn a few patients that they may not get the treatments that they are hoping for this month due to the crisis.

Today, we have been to collect the laptop of my wife which was repaired after I broke it.  During this time, the kids were exemplary in their behaviour.  We ate in Chelmsford after taking a break on our journey back, and while the seating was a bit chilly, the food was fantastic.  

Anyway, now it is time for The Voice UK which we all love.  

And the end of 2017 comes...

The kids have been amazing today recovering from jet lag though my daughter woke about 0130 which is about 0700 in Sri Lanka.  We drove to London after seeing if the laptop of my wife could be fixed (I broke it's screen during the holiday).  When there, we collected my mother after meeting one of my brothers and his better half.

We also met with Tony and Isobel who have kept an eye on our house while we have been away.  But we now countdown the minutes till the end of this year and the beginning of the next.  Best wishes to you all!

Just a quick post to wish you all a Happy New Year!  Hopefully, there will be no repeat of the numbers of dead legends, but more importantly, I am hoping for a just peace across the world, notably in Syria, Burma, Nigeria and Palestine/Israel.
