Little Mix are the winners of the X-Factor 2011. Vladimir Putin has called for a recount, as he feels he should have won.

Evening all.  I am knackered.  Have been down to London, taking the kids to see my mother.  My Mum has a cat, and my wife is allergic to them.  She wheezes which is why my son has learned the phrase "Move out of the bloody way Louie" (a reference to a lovely cat that lives on our road).  There was a time when my mother did not have a cat and my wife could visit her, the previous cat passing away, but since then, she got another one...  Which means that for Christmas, we can not actually visit my mother, without my wife sitting in the car outside, which is not how she would like to spend Christmas day!  Speaking of which, I owe her lots.  Thanks to her, my family should be getting presents that they like.  I have tired to get her things, but in general, I tend to leave things till the last minute, and when I have tried to surprise her, she generally does not like what I get for her.  Which means that she has to give me a list of things that she might like, but more importantly, I have to remember what she tells me.
Anyway, a long drive down with loads of traffic.  But we were able to nip to East London to pick up a present, and then to pick up my mother, and take her out to TGI Fridays.  I have to say, I was very impressed with the service there.  The kids loved it, as they got balloons (only one survived the journey back) and my Mum loved the time spent with the kids.  Anyway, after dropping her back near where she lives (she needed to get something from the library) we drove of to do a little bit more shopping, food this time, and then back home.  While my wife got the provisions for the upcoming festive season, I too the kids to a merry go round and then afterwards, there was a ride which accomdated them both.  After that, fun on the M25 as we went home.
Still, on getting home, the kids got to speak to the older of my two brothers and thanks to modern technology, they got to see him as well as one of our long friends, David. The kids are looking forwards to the big day, my daughter is counting down the days, or rather the nights.

Anyway, good night all and take care.

And the winner of X Factor 2011 is............. Simon Cowell's wallet!

Evening all.  Quick post.  Still knackered after the way work was in the last week.  Hopefully, I will be back to somewhere near normal speed tomorrow or I am screwed!

I have had a mixed day with the kids today.  Because I was tired, I have to admit that I was a lot more snappish compared to how I usually am and my wife has had to deal with this effectively for a whole week.  But, she is amazing, and I am very lucky to have her.  I did get to have my daughter read to me.  I am certain that she play stupid with us.  Well, maybe not stupid, but I do think that she does not try as hard as she does at achool.  I am sure she has decided to not let us know just how clever she is.

Anyway, I have to go know, have to iron for tomorrow and clean up.

Good night all.

I'm not tired, I'm just trying to start a yawn trail

Evening all.  I am knackered.  I have had a very busy week.  Thursday was very busy, and I did not get home till eight in the evening.  Which meant that I did not get to put the kids to bed.  But while I was annoyed that I was not able to do so, I thought that would be fine as I would be able to put them to bed on Friday.  And while I thought that Thursday was busy, Friday was worse.  Which meant that I did not get to put the kids to bed either, and I did not get home until nine, and even then, I had to leave without finishing all my work.  Today, I went to a course, then actually got to spend time with the two kids.  Unfortunately, they were a bit tired, which meant that they were playing up a bit.  But after a bit of rest and lunch at Wahaca they calmed down.  Face painting later was something that they got to enjoy and I have to say it is great spending time with them when they get to do things like that.
Anyway, knackered, and I have the work Christmas party to go to tonight!

A day without seeing the kids

I did not get to spend that much time with the kids today.  Did not really see them in the morning as they were tired, and by the time I got back late from work, they were asleep.  My daughter had asked my wife if she could stay at home, saying that she was tired.  My son went to nursery, but due to an attack of the squits, had to come home quickly.  When were both at home, they decided to snuggle on the sofa.  When I was a kid, one of my mothers friends, Marlowe used to look after me and my brothers.  She kindly gave us a blanket a few years ago.  When getting out the Christmas stuff, I found it again and brought it out with the decorations.  Well, my son found it first today when he was sent home and put it on.  When my daughter got home, my son proudly showed off his new discovery.

I know there are times that my wife goes stir crazy at home, but at least she gets to see things like this, and I have to say, there are many times that I am very jealous.  But then I do go to work to get rest!

My wife said, "Can we put the Christmas tree up tonight?" I said, "Why, has it got nowhere else to stay?"

Evening all.  Sorry about the delay since my last post.  Just a quick one.  Well, loads have happened since my last post, but I can not remember everything.  So I will just stick to the last few days.  My daughter has loved the last few days, as she has been to three birthday parties in the last four days.  My son is a bit peeved as he only went to one of them.  So, today, when my daughter was dropped off at one, we went home and put the Christmas tree up.  Poor kid, he keeps thinking that it is Christmas as the tree is up.  We keep telling him it is in a few weeks time, but he is only three.  That and time goes much slower for kids than it does for adults.  Anyway, good night all.

We all get asked, what do you want for christmas?
So one day I visited santa and asked him.
"What would you like for Christmas?".
He turned to look me in the eye and said, "To have Christmas off."

I saw this on the internet today

Teaching preschoolers the ways of the world...

I was downstairs doing some suitably stereotypical female domestic task with my 18 month old daughter in tow. Son (3 years) and husband upstairs playing with something altogether more masculine (fixing the computer). 3 year old son calls down to me 'mum, where's my camera', the reply went something like, 'in your toy box I think'. A few minutes later, 'mum, I can't find it'. I reply, 'have you looked?'. Son replies, 'We've done a man's look'. Husband asks, 'What's a man's look', son replies, 'it's where you don't look properly'

Needless to say, it was posted by a woman.  And to be fair, it is true.  Most of the time.  My daughter, like most girls her age, can be just as good as I am at finding things.  My son normally is worse.  My daughter has not been well, and therefore was not able to go to school.  We were tempted to send her anyway, but she had a rash and it was PE which would have meant that everyone would have seen the rash...  Did get to see both kids, as they came round to my work for lunch today.  And of course, I got to see my lovely wife.  All in all, today, seeing the family for lunch, was a great day.

You have never played "I spy with my little eye" until you have been to Chernobyl

Evening all.  I have realised that I forgot to mention that we watched a film yesterday.  Spy Kids.  The kids loved it.  They have watched the trailers for it before and both wanted to watch it.  I have to say, as a film for kids it was great.  As a film for adults, no, it was not good.  It was not terrible, well, it was bordering on it at times.  But while I would never watch it for my own entertainment, I did see why the kids loved it, and from a parents perspective it was a good film.  If you are not a parent, do not bother watching it.  Seriously, do not.  Mind you, being parents, my wife and I are doing our best to avoid having to watch Chipwrecked which both kids want to watch (sob).
Of course, one of the things they love about going to the cinema is the experience.  My daughter got to ask for the tickets and both kids loved getting the popcorn with my wife.  My son is getting used to watching films in the cinema.  Normally at home, he will play with toys rather than watch an entire film.  In past films, he has, when sat next to his mother, been prone to climbing on her.  Yesterday we was great.  It may have helped that I held the popcorn in front of him though!
Anyway, today they went to a fireworks party.  A spectacular one and one tailored to kids of that age as well as many watching fathers.  And the people involved in setting it up had done a spectacular job considering that they were volunteers and had to do this in addition to what they normally did (and for the record, I was not one of them).  Special thanks on that have to go to Neil who set up the spectacular display.  Anyway, I hope the video's below make you laugh as I have to go now.
Our cat really hates fireworks ...

Especially when we tie a rocket to its legs.
Fireworks are like Jedward; loud and pointless. The difference is, I know which I'd rather see explode.
"Dad, can we go out in the garden for fireworks?"

"No son, I've got a bad back and I can't move from this sofa."

"Please dad, next door are letting off loads."

"Next door? Okay son, grab me a beer and my coat."

What does Frankie Cocozza have that the other X-Factor contestants don't? STDs

Evening all.
Well first of all, the X factor.  Being at work yesterday, I did not get to watch it so taped it and just listened to the songs which in my view is the best way to watch it.  I also taped Strictly Come Dancing which I liked, though which the kids got to watch last night.  The two kids have different favourites and both have taken to dancing.  It helps that my daughter is at an after school club where she dances.  Still has no rhythm though!  Mind you, when it comes to clapping, my son, who appears to have natural rhythm has one then either.  Fankie Cocozza still gets my wife annoyed, but that seems to be the case with other people as well. She has been dancing to Olly Murs last term, I am not sure what she is dancing to this term. Maybe she will let us know this week!

Hopefully, I have recovered from Man-flu, which I had bad on the weekend. I got better for the week, but then got something else. Did not stop me going to work, but I was not up to my ususal standard when it came to getting through the amount of work I faced. Fortunately, it was not too hard when it came to the amount of work that I had to deal with, and most importantly, I have a great wife who takes care of me. The kids would be a bit under the weather for a day, and then get better, and then run rings round my wife and I. For while I have moaned about myself being not too well, I have forgotten that my wife has not been well either.

Anyway,it was nice that Arsenal kept two clean sheets on the trot.  I hope that will continue, but I doubt it.  While West Brom were not much of a threat, Marseille was.

Halloween - the only time ugly people feel normal

I've gone as David Cameron this Halloween and I'm really getting into the spirit of it.

Sitting on my arse, doing bugger all, and explaining to the kids at the door that due to the shortage of sweets at the moment I'll have to take some of theirs..

Anyway, the kids and Halloween.   Negotiation was needed to encourage the kids to eat, i.e. eat or you do not go out.  Both kids, ate, finally.  And then they went out, my daughter dressed as Spiderella and my son as a Wizard (though he was king of the vampires at Nursery earlier in the day).  They loved it.  Sweets, dressing up, more sweets, glow sticks, more sweets, glow sticks, more sweets, E numbers, more sweets, and did I mention, more sweets?
Me, I did not get to share this.  I came back to put them to bed.  Tired, they were crying more than usual.
Hopefully they will not wake us up tonight!

My daughters book review

Afternoon all. Am still ill. I think that I am a bit better than before, but then I have just been sitting down for the last hour or so.

My daughter has just finished her book review. She got a book for half term and loved reading it. I did read it to her (and her brother) first, and I have to say, I was shocked at the ending!  They liked it as well, and the best bit was that there were no nightmares.  Unlike last night, but then that was my fault as the kids had watched Willow before hand and my daughter had tried to watch Sarah Jane, but had to stop on the episode she was watching as it was too distressing.  I do forget that she is only six at times.
She did have to write about it though, this being the book, not what she was watching.  The sheet of paper she wrote on was far shorter than the video's above.

My wife has been greating looking after me today, mind you, she is always great at looking after me, but she has been patient and understanding at just how pathetic I have been.  My son is a bit stir crazy as normally on a Sunday, they are taken out, which I have not been able to do today.

What I did manage to do though was watch the Arsenal highlights on Match of the Day.  It was great to beat Chelski, but out defensive performance was terrible.  If we play against a team that pays more attention to defending, we are screwed as we were opened up at times with ease and were lucky not to have let in more goals before half time.  And we were lucky not to have our goal keeper sent off in the second half.  Saying that, I am sure that the second Chelski goal involved a foul on Mertesacker.  Anyway, it is great to get a result against Chelski and get over the run of bad results that we have had against them, but we need to pay more attention to our back four.

Anyway, take care all.

At half time, the Chelsea team clearly got the wrong end of the stick when the manager said to go out in the second half and give it to Arsenal

Life is as simple as ABC - Arsenal Beat Chelsea .  Today is one of the few times I had a look at the score before Match of the Day.  I was very glad that I did so.  And now I have a big smile on my face.  I have to say, I did not expect to win against Chelski, especially playing away.  And that smile is needed as I am not feeling too well today.  I have been stuck with man flu.  Anyway, this week, since my last post, I got to watch the Arsenal-Bolton game in the League Cup, at the Grove, thanks to a patient I treated.  Just to note, it was not a gift, I still had to buy the ticket, but I doubt I would have got such a good seat if I had arranged it myself.  I was right by the pitch (and watching the highlights, I could see myself) which was great!  While we have had a terrible start to the season, and I did start to lose the faith, Wenger was right, things would get better.  Of course, we have to keep winning games.  While the win was great, at the end of the day, it was three points, and it is the same three points that we get for beating Stoke.  We have to retain focus, especially if we are to continue our League cup run.

Anyway, since my last post my Mother has been up to baby sit.  We picked her up and drove her into London so that she could pick a present, which ended up being Hello Kitty related.  While I have to say, I hate Hello Kitty, she loves it, and that is what matters.  Both of them loved having my mother up and it is always nice to see her spend time with the two kids.  Anyway, the two of them are now dressed up for Halloween.  We have stuff in the attic which I have brought down today and they are dressed up as Spiderilla and a wizard.  Last year when they did this, they chased me about to turn me into a frog!

The video above is of a Halloween Mummy that they got last year.  They love it.  I hate it.  They play it over and over and over.  It mysteriously was left upstairs when I took the Halloween box out of the loft, but this must have been subconcious as I do not remember taking it out.  I wish I had left it in the loft!
Man flu....women just don't get it.
What's the difference between Man Flu and Bieber Fever?
One of them is a terrible affliction that can make you wish you were dead.
The other is Man Flu.

What is a hung parliament? Job done.

Well, parliament has decided not to allow us the chance to vote (again) on the European question.  Not just our Prime Minister, but also the Leader of the opposition and the Deputy Prime Minister as well.

This does annoy me.

As noted in my last post, MP's need to come across as being reflecting the views of the people of the UK. Loads of people in the UK are in favour of having a referendum on continued EU membership, I being one of them.  I for one, think that MP's should have been allowed a free vote on the matter.

Now, this is strange as I am in favour of being in the EU. I do think that it has too many powers, but I am aware that it has been good for the UK in many ways (and bad in others). But, loads of people are against the EU and I do think that we deserve a chance to vote on it. A vote on the issue will end the debate on EU membership. That is unless the outcome is to leave the EU and then we either do well and stay out of the EU, or the economy will go even further down the toilet and we will have to rejoin it.

In fact, there is only one reason I can see for not having a referendum. And that is because of the lies and half truths that are spread by those who are against EU membership. When it comes to the arguments for having a referendum about being in the EU, many of those who are for one claim that parties such as the Lib Dems had a commitment to one in their last election manifesto. They did not though they had argued for one before the Lisbon Treaty was passed.
And it is only beacuse of things like that that I have some sympathy with Parliament. But I still am in favour of a referendum on being in or out of the EU.

Nut for those who think that the UK will do well by being out of the EU, let me remind you Nissan and Honda would leave, these being just two major manufacturing companies that export to mainland Europe.  Leave the EU and we would be forced to watch much of our manufacturing industry leave the UK as well.

David Cameron: "I don't want a referendum on Europe." There's no "I" in democracy David....

Well, it has been an interesting week or so.

First of all, Libya is free of the dictator we had started to be friends with again.  After he backed the IRA and (according to some) was behind the destruction of a airliner over a Scottish town.  The bottom line is that Gaddafi was probably murdered after his capture.  It was wrong, but to be honest, I do not care.

And of course, while I type this, there is a debate in Parliament on having a referendum on EU membership.  For the record, I am in favour of being in the EU.  I think that he EU should be reformed so that it allows memberstates to make more laws, with less pan-European harmonisation taking place.  Europe is made up of different states with different laws and cultures, and I think that diversity is there to be valued.  However, I do think that while I would vote that we should remain in the EU, I think that we, the people of the United Kingdom deserve a vote on either being in the EU or leaving it.  Having a vote on renegotiation of the terms of our membership is a bit silly though as that would not result in anything.  Those who we elect to represent us should allow us to have a vote on this.  If we vote to leave the EU, either the UK is better for it, in which case that is a good thing, or things get worse and we have to re-enter, which then settles the argument either way.  Obviously, I would prefer a vote to remain within the EU, but WE DESERVE A VOTE!!!  If Parliament does not allow one, it distances itself from the electorate at a time when people still have a lack of faith in Parliament, in part, due to the issues with Expenses.

Anyway, just saw 6-1 derful goals on Match of the Day.  I heard that Greater Manchester police are appealing for witnesses after 11 men in sky blue shirts handed out a severe beating in the (S)old Trafford area of Manchester around 4pm on Sunday afternoon. The police can be contacted on Manchester 61 61 61.  And on the topic of that game,  ManUre were missing their best defender. That's why they lost (some say). But, Alex Ferguson hopes to have Howard Webb back for next game.

It was a weekend of shock results in the premiership.  Who would have thought Arsenal would be scoring three against Stoke.  I for one did not.  I will be going to the Grove tomorrow to watch the reserves lose to Bolton in the Carling Cup.  Of course, I hope we win, but with our season so far...

But to the real reason I have made this post.  The kids.  We have been to Legoland today.  We were a bit late getting down there, which meant more traffic, but we did get there.  And as usual, the kids loved it.  With it being half term, there were loads of people there, which meant long waits for rides, but they were really good.  It is only natural that they will play up a bit, and they did, but considering everything they were brilliant.  Not like one boy that we all saw whack his mother in a queue as she ahd not noticed it had moved on.  They know what would happen if they did something like that, and just to make sure, my wife did mention that if they had done that, we would have been on the way back home!  I think one of their favourites was the Scarab bouncer, but they loved other ones as well such as the Desert Chase.  They have been on Desert Chase before, but this time they noticed two girls on one bit while they were waiting, and they went onto that part of the ride, and boy did they love that.  In fact they loved it so much, when they went on another ride that they loved on previous visits, they did not like is as much as they had in the past.  Anyway, time to go and rest as tomorrow, I get to spend another day with the kids.

Gain an extra hour of life by simply Sky+ing X-Factor and fast forwarding the adverts....

Afternoon all.
Things have been interesting since my last post with two birthday parties for my daughter who is now aged six. One was at home and my wife seems to have finally learned the reasons not to have loads of screaming girls at home. In addition, you could argue why she had this one as she also had one at Jungle Adventure. But she had a great time.

When it comes to how the two are doing, they are doing really well.  In the last few weeks, I have been able to take time to hear my daughter read, and she makes me so proud when she does so.  Yesterday, I used a game of Snakes and Ladders to teach her a few tricks with maths and she learned them and used them.  That was before I went to work though.

Today, we have spent a great day together.  The kids were taken to Castle Park again, which they loved.  Of course the last time, my son fell from a great height (for him), this time that did not happen.  My wife got to see just how high he fell from.  She was not amused!  But the kids had a great time, both playing on the climbing frame as well as going on the slides and so many other things.  On getting back, they both spent time making necklaces and have calmed down watching Strictly Come Dancing, which they both love.

Anyway, time to go, and I am going to really have to take more time to work out some interesting details for my posts.

It's 'rock week' on the X factor.

I can't wait for the Mega Death cover after the break.

Sunday, 9 October 2011

Tonight X-Factor are getting rid of the most useless one in every four.... Please let it be Louis.

Well, it has been a good day with the kids.  Yesterday I was doing loads of vaccinations (the flu jab) and got mine.  Went to work again late last night, and today, I felt unwell (due to the flu jab).  So I was not able to do much, but I did get to spend time with the kids.  Got to listen to my daughter reading, got to help my son learn about reading, and they loved to play on the Wii.  Anyway, have to go.  Take care all.

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

George Osborne is a 5ex god. He single-handedly is f**king the entire of the UK.

Quick post before I go to bed.  Once again, I got to take my daughter to school.  My son was not well, having to have to go to to see the doctor about an eye infection.  We got to see a medical student at first, which was interesting for me as in my last job, I used to teach students.  Anyway, long story short, he loved the attention, and is now on antibiotics.

Taking my daughter to school was lovely.  It was raining a bit and she had a chance to be driven there, but wanted to walk in with me.  The only thing is the heart ache I feel when she runs with glee to the teacher and the queue.  Normally on a Wednesday she has a dancing class, but she was not able to have one today so got to ride back on her scooter.  She loved it.

Anyway have to tidy and get ready for bed.  Goodnight.

So we lost

Well, the match did not go as well as I had hoped. Of course, it would have been nice if the referee had noticed that the first goal had been scored with a deliberate handball and then sent of the already booked player for that. But then, Arsenal should have won that game. We had plenty of chances. And it was a lack of concentration that resulted in the second goal. Anyway, the bottom line is that we lost.
So, the kids. They were good while I watched the match. It did mean that I was not able to swear as much as I would have liked.  Afterwards, it was the usual of playing with them and reading to them at night.  At the moment, my daughter loves a book called Funnybones.
She is going to love it when she sees this video.

Playing the scum

Quick post before the match starts.

Have had a great day with ths kids so far.  Last night we were entertaining so the kids did not get much quality time with us.  My wife was cooking, I had to be at work in the morning and in the afternoon, while I got to play with the kids a bit, it was more stuff to do with the house.  Though, thanks to the weather, they had a great time out in the garden.
Today, we have not had the energy to make the most out of the weather we are enjoying.  Which is a shame as I love the sun.  We spent the morning relaxing, watching Doctor Who (both last weeks episode, and this weeks one), and the X factor, and also playing about with the kids.

A while ago, we went to Legoland and the kids got some LEGO figures.  But, they did not remember they had them.  So yesterday, while tidying in the house, I found, hidden away, the bag of their new LEGO figures.  I put it away with some of their other toys, and waited for them to notice them.  Several hours later they finally noticed them, but only once it was pointed out that there was a bad with something in it!

Anyway, have to go, I am really nervous about this game...

Arsenal 2 - 1 Olympiakos

First of all, it is good to see Arsenal win! Especially when the other English teams in the European Cup (I do not like to call it the Champions League when runners up are in it) have not been able to do so this week.  Though to be fair, we did have the easiest game.  At work, it was mentioned that the Greeks tend not to travel well, but I grew up in North London, and I know just how many Greeks there are around the Grove, so you could argue that there would be a lot of support there for Olympiakos.
And this victory is due the skill of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, one of our new signings. Which makes my post about how maybe it was time for Wenger to leave looking a bit stupid.  Saying that, just as it is far too early to say that it is time for him to leave, it would be far too early for him to stay, but I have to stay true to my previous mantra, In Arsène we trust.
Anyway, to post about the kids.  It has been a good few days with them.  Today, as usual, I got to take the kids to school.  Over the last few days, I have managed to tape a few episodes of the Smurfs, which they love.  My wife hates the smurfs, so it is time that they get to enjoy with me.

On the downside, my daughter thumped me today.  She got annoyed with me, she turned round, and literally swung at me.  I have yet to decide how I should act on this one.  Turns out on talking to my wife, my son has been prone to the odd aggressive outburst as well.  That is something we are going to have to think on.  Once I have calmed down about the win that is...

Electrical engineer urgently rquired at the emirates stadium, worn out panic button needs replacing asap.

Evening all.  Sorry it has been a while since I last posted.  Since then, Arsenal have actually won a game, well, two.  It makes a change, but I have to admit, I am dreading the game on the weekend against the Scum.  Not only to I expect a spanking, but those who like that team at my work are going to enjoy pointing out the problems with Arsenal.  As it is, there have been many who have called for change at the Grove.  I used to have the staunch view that change would be bad for Arsenal.  Now, I am not too sure.  I think that Wenger has been great for Arsenal, the trophies that he has given us are proof of that.  And it is not his fault that Chelski and Man 5hitty have distorted the transfer market.  No other manager in the league has had a season where the team has been unbeaten.  And people laughed at him when he said it was possible  And we have come so close to getting a trophy.  But, despite the loss of vital players, the fault stops with him regarding our defence.  If there is to be change, there is an alternative out there.  Martin O'Neil.  He took Celtic to the UEFA cup final (to lose against Mourinho and Porto) and he is proven to be able to movtivate players.  The question is, can Wenger turn things around?  He thinks that he can, and he has done so in the past.

Anyway, since my last post...  My wife has got annoyed with me.  I have managed to turn the kids into major Dalek fans.  To be fair, it is part her fault as she bought my son a Dalek costume a few weeks ago.  In additon, there have been mini figures that can be used with LEGO and my son now has three Daleks.  Like my daughter, they both have a Doctor Who to go with their lego toys.  He is as cheeky as ever, and charming, my wife being asked how it was possible to tell him off by more than one mother who has fallen for his charms.

Last weekend, on Sunday we took the kids to Castle Park.  My wife got some time to shop, while I spent the time with the kids.  They loved it as there is a new playground there.  And they loved the climbing frame.  And all went well until my daughter called for me to look at her while she was climbing on some ropes.  My son tried to do the same.  And fell.  From a height.  Well, he cried, and cried some more.  And in addition to the guilt I of course was trying to check him for broken bones.  This weekend though things were more sedate.  I went to work on Saturday and today, I spent time with the kids in the garden.  We played football (they got bored very quickly), and we played me being a horse (they did not get bored of that).  We tried to get the kids to play catch, and my daughter took this up, my son deciding against it, though both played 'it' with me.  I got to read with my daughter, and I have to say that she amazes me.  I am so proud of both my kids, and am lucky to have two kids who are so nice to each other.  Most of the time they get on, though I do hear my son yelling "You are not Mummy" at my daughter when she bosses him about.

Anyway, good night.  Have to go to bed, work tomorrow.

As an Arsenal fan I was delighted to hear about my team's recent activity in the transfer market. Nicklas Bendtner has moved to Sunderland.

Oh well, a sign of the times.  At the begining of today, we were 17th in the table.  And now we are the 6th match on Match of the Day.  Mind you, on Friday, I said at work that either Arsenal was to get beaten or we would thrash Swansea.  I was wrong.  It was 1-0 and watching the highlights, my heart was in my mouth.  Arshavin scored a brilliant goal, but we were lucky not to go behind to Swansea, and we were lucky that they did not equalise.  On the BBC highlights, Arteta looked good.  I do think that Arsenal have a lot of potential this season.  We have come close in other seasons, and I do think that we can win something this season.  Mind you people think that I am clutching at straws, and I do think that the loss of Wilshere and Vermaelen is going to hurt us.  But I am still going to keep the faith.

Rob Earnshaws shot against England just landed in my back garden.

Of course, the title post is a reference to the game where we (England) were lucky to beat Wales.

Anyway, time to post about the kids.

Let me start last week, on Wednesday.  Then we took them to Legoland.  They loved it.  They did not know that they were to go there, so it was a surprise for them which was kept until they arrived in the grounds.  And they loved it.  I did not get them to go on the roller coasters (that is my plan for the next time...) but they loved it as did my wife and I.

Last weekend, I had a course in London, and we were to meet a friend there afterwards, which he had tried to arrange ages ago.  It turned out the course was very close to were he wanted to meet up, which was great.  It was brilliant to see him, though my kids thought that he was me from the back!

And this week has been by daughters first week back at school.  Now she is out of her foundation year, she has less playtime and is being worked harder.  She has realised that life this year is not going to be as much fun as it was last year.  Mind you, while school was fun for her last year, life for my wife and I was a bit stressful.  With my change of job, and the initial pay cut, life was hard for my wife and I.  Dealing with the pay cut involved me working agency work most weekends which was hard for my wife as well.  But she was amazing, and I am sure that my daughter will be as well this year.

Anyway, have a look at some video's from two X-Factor contestants.

I saw this on the net today. "I would 8-2 be an Arsenal fan." Gits.

Yes, this is a post about THE game.

When watching the Udinese game, I was wary about this game.  Udinese were a threat on the coutner attack, but did not put away the chances that they had.  I was aware of the pace that ManUre have, and also was aware of the skill.  When talking to my manager at work about this, I did say that I hoped it would not be another 6-1 thrashing, that being the last time we went to Sold Trafford with a depleted squad.
Anway, Arsène is hurt by this, as are all the Arsenal fans.  But at least the club have decided to pay for those who went to watch our humiliation to watch another away match.
And while I am going to be laughed at a lot about this at work, at least the scum were beaten.  But not as badly as we were.

At the end of the day, there are no excuses.  ManUre were outstanding, we were not.  Some of our players were already beaten when they stepped onto the pitch, and our defence was all over the place.  But, the past is in the past.  I still think that we can win something this season.  Though I have to admit that we are going to have to get a lot better for this to happen, that and get very lucky.  But in Arsène we trust.  And I know that I am clutching at straws when I say this, but I do think that we are going to get better this season.  So long as the players can recover from this and the other fans do not call for the head of Arsène, for after all, who else are we meant to get who would be anywhere near as good as him?  Anyway, here is hoping that the new players coming in will be up to scratch, and that we can get some others in to add much needed depth to our squad.  Anyway, the last time ManUre thrashed us, we won the title the next season...

10 Surprising Facts about American Health Care

This post is a response to a post by Scott Atlas about US healthcare.  He raises ten interesting points.  I am going to deal with many of the posts he refers to.  After the reference section, I will also mention a few other things that this does not deal with.

Fact No. 1:  Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers.[1]  Breast cancer mortality is 52 percent higher in Germany than in the United States, and 88 percent higher in the United Kingdom.  Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the U.K. and 457 percent higher in Norway.  The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40 percent higher.
This fact forgets two things.  The uninsured in the USA have worse survival rates than those with insurance, and this fact does not mention those cancers that have similar survival rates.
Fact No. 2:  Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians.[2]  Breast cancer mortality is 9 percent higher, prostate cancer is 184 percent higher and colon cancer mortality among men is about 10 percent higher than in the United States.
As noted above, look at the rates for those who can not affor insurance.
Fact No. 3:  Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries.[3]  Some 56 percent of Americans who could benefit are taking statins, which reduce cholesterol and protect against heart disease.  By comparison, of those patients who could benefit from these drugs, only 36 percent of the Dutch, 29 percent of the Swiss, 26 percent of Germans, 23 percent of Britons and 17 percent of Italians receive them.
Now this is a fascinating fact.  Mainly because when you look at the complication rates for chronic illnesses, the USA actually is worse than other developed nations.  In addition to this (and these are facts I will repeat) the US scores worst amongst developed nations when it comes to deaths due to preventable causes
Fact No. 4:  Americans have better access to preventive cancer screening than Canadians.[4]  Take the proportion of the appropriate-age population groups who have received recommended tests for breast, cervical, prostate and colon cancer:
  • Nine of 10 middle-aged American women (89 percent) have had a mammogram, compared to less than three-fourths of Canadians (72 percent).
  • Nearly all American women (96 percent) have had a pap smear, compared to less than 90 percent of Canadians.
  • More than half of American men (54 percent) have had a PSA test, compared to less than 1 in 6 Canadians (16 percent).
  • Nearly one-third of Americans (30 percent) have had a colonoscopy, compared with less than 1 in 20 Canadians (5 percent).
Fact No. 5:  Lower income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians.  Twice as many American seniors with below-median incomes self-report "excellent" health compared to Canadian seniors (11.7 percent versus 5.8 percent).  Conversely, white Canadian young adults with below-median incomes are 20 percent more likely than lower income Americans to describe their health as "fair or poor."[5]
This 'fact' refers to health perception, not to actual health.  Again, look at the survival rates of lower income Americans compared to the survival rates of those in other developed nations
Fact No. 6:  Americans spend less time waiting for care than patients in Canada and the U.K.  Canadian and British patients wait about twice as long - sometimes more than a year - to see a specialist, to have elective surgery like hip replacements or to get radiation treatment for cancer.[6]  All told, 827,429 people are waiting for some type of procedure in Canada.[7]  In England, nearly 1.8 million people are waiting for a hospital admission or outpatient treatment.[8]
But this does not look at those Americans who never get a chance to wait due to lack of insurance!
Fact No. 7:  People in countries with more government control of health care are highly dissatisfied and believe reform is needed.   More than 70 percent of German, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and British adults say their health system needs either "fundamental change" or "complete rebuilding."[9]
Which is why people in those nations keep those systems!  When the conservatives in the UK took power, that was on a promise to protect the NHS!  Let alone the fact that people in the UK love the NHS.
Fact No. 8:  Americans are more satisfied with the care they receive than Canadians.  When asked about their own health care instead of the "health care system," more than half of Americans (51.3 percent) are very satisfied with their health care services, compared to only 41.5 percent of Canadians; a lower proportion of Americans are dissatisfied (6.8 percent) than Canadians (8.5 percent).[10]
Which is why Obama was elected on a platform to reform the healthcare system...
Fact No. 9:  Americans have much better access to important new technologies like medical imaging than patients in Canada or the U.K.  Maligned as a waste by economists and policymakers naïve to actual medical practice, an overwhelming majority of leading American physicians identified computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the most important medical innovations for improving patient care during the previous decade.[11]  The United States has 34 CT scanners per million Americans, compared to 12 in Canada and eight in Britain.  The United States has nearly 27 MRI machines per million compared to about 6 per million in Canada and Britain.[12]
And yet as mentioned, people in the UK are healthier and do better on most chronic conditions when it comes to complication rates than they do in the USA, as well as those who die of preventable causes of death in the USA compared to other developed nations.
Fact No. 10:  Americans are responsible for the vast majority of all health care innovations.[13]  The top five U.S. hospitals conduct more clinical trials than all the hospitals in any other single developed country.[14]  Since the mid-1970s, the Nobel Prize in medicine or physiology has gone to American residents more often than recipients from all other countries combined.[15]  In only five of the past 34 years did a scientist living in America not win or share in the prize.   Most important recent medical innovations were developed in the United States.[16]
And yet the system fails Americans.  Again look at the health of Americans compared to people in the UK and again look at the complication rates for medical conditions which in general is worse in the USA.

Why does no other developed nation have the old US model of healthcare?  Because in the US model, before the reforms, insurance companies used death panels to deny care to those they were meant to cover.  And then they raised costs.  Not only does the USA spend more on healthcare than any other nation, it finds itself bottom of the table when it comes to preventable deaths due to treatable conditions when it comes to developed nations.  The sad thing is that rather than focus on these things, the right spreads lies and half truths about the reforms and howhealthcare works abroad.  Even sadder is the fact that the reforms are so simple.  But I think the saddest things are the number of kids in America who die.  I do not like the issue that in the UK, we have a high death rate of kids aged under five compared to other nations, but the USA, the most developed nation in the world have an even higher death rate for kids aged under five.  And in addition to that, look at the maternal mortality rate for the USA.  In English it means the number of women who die when they are pregnant (or soon after) which are due to problems related to the pregnancyIt is higher in the USA than it is in other developed nations.

I do not know which facts you will find of more interest.  But please do click on at least a few of the links that I have provided which back up my statements.
