The BBC is not biased

Actually, most of the time, the BBC tries not be be biased, and most of the time, it succeeds.

Last week, I was talking to someone about the BBC. They did not like it. In the discussion I talked about how it is soft power, not just BBC news being seen abroad in every hotel I have been in, but also the BBC world service and TV shows like Doctor Who and so many others.  I forgot to mention how the BBC is also seen as biased by many on both the left of politics as well as the right.

This is an issue I have discussed in 2022 and 2016, notably when Emily Maitlis spoke out about Sir Robbie Gibb. There are times that the BBC will follow the government line, notably during the Iraq war, though not before or after the invasion. Examples of bias can be seen with how Gaza has been covered, not just during the recent attempted Ethnic Cleansing after the horrific attacks of October the 7th, but before it. But the BBC reflects on what it does. As noted in the videos below, the BBC did not employ someone who lied repeatedly about the EU and it did not engage in phone hacking

The bottom line is that the BBC, even with its current board, has an ethos of trying to be unbiased. Those on the left and right of politics who wish to defund it or get rid of it are fools, not just because of how it promotes Great Britain, but also because most of the time, it is a balanced source of news.
